Food
In Colonial America
People who lived on the Atlantic Coast often sold fish and whale blubber at fish markets which were usually down by the docks.
| Farmers who grew wheat, barley, corn, tobacco or rice hauled their crops to a town market. The crops were sold to people in that town or to traders who would ship the goods to other colonies. These traders would send the goods by boats along the rivers or along the ocean coast.

Trouble with Food
In America's early days food was serious business. People could be killed over food. Men stole food and they protected it like gold. Every meal was alot of work. They had to build fires and keep them going so they could cook their food. They had to pick foods like wheat and peas and chickens had to have feathers plucked before they could be eatten.
