Colonists started moving into areas in Massachusetts where Native Americans had lived for hundereds of years. The colonists attacked an Indian town, killed many of the people there, and claimed the land. Fighting between the Indians and the settlers lasted until 1676. Over one thousand Indians were captured and sold as slaves.
